What's Included

A pellet stove depends on motors, sensors and a sealed vent working together, and its manual sets how each is serviced. We clean the burn pot, the heat exchanger and the exhaust path, test the igniter, the auger motor and the safety switches, and replace failed parts with listed ones. We also check that the vent's termination still keeps its required distances from windows and doors.

Auger motor and feed system repair
Igniter replacement for all brands
Combustion and convection blower service
Control board diagnosis and replacement
Hopper sensor and safety switch repair
Exhaust vent cleaning and inspection

Tracing the Fault, Part by Part

Pellet stoves are machines as much as heaters. A hopper feeds pellets to an auger, a motor turns the auger to drop fuel into the burn pot, an igniter lights it, and a combustion blower pulls air through while a room blower pushes the heat out. A control board runs the sequence and shuts everything down when a sensor reports a problem. That design means faults can be traced. An error code, or a stove that quits after a few minutes, often points to a vacuum or proof-of-fire switch, usually because the vent or burn pot is clogged with ash. An auger that stalls may be jammed with fines or overlong pellets. A stove that never lights may need an igniter. We test each part before replacing it and order the maker's parts by model number.

Not every problem is a part. Poor pellets, damp storage and skipped cleaning cause plenty of shutdowns. The burn pot, heat exchanger tubes and ash traps need regular cleaning by the owner, and the vent and combustion blower need a deeper cleaning by a technician about once a season, depending on use. We do that deeper cleaning with most repairs, because an ash-packed vent will trip the same switch a new part was supposed to fix. Pellet stoves are less common in Sherman Oaks than gas units, but they turn up in converted garages, studios and homes where the owner wants pellet heat. Wherever one sits, its listing label sets the clearances to walls and furniture, and we check those while we are there.

Venting Rules for Pellet Stoves

Pellet stoves vent through pipe listed for pellet appliances, often called PL vent, with sealed joints, because the blower pushes the exhaust under pressure. Ordinary stovepipe or dryer duct is never acceptable. The manual sets the vent's maximum length, the number of elbows, and where the termination may sit outside, with distances from doors, windows, air intakes, walkways and grade, so exhaust does not come back indoors or blow onto people. Some installs vent straight out a wall, and others run up an existing masonry chimney with a liner. We check pipe type, joint seals, the termination and its clearances on every repair, because a blocked or leaking vent is both a safety problem and the most common reason a stove keeps shutting itself off.

Pellet stove repairs are quoted in writing once we know the fault, with the part, labor and any vent work named. Many fixes take one visit. If the stove needs a part the maker no longer stocks, we tell you before ordering a substitute and explain whether it keeps the stove inside its listing. Moving a stove or installing a new one means the new spot and vent run must follow the manual, and it usually needs a permit, which we can quote too. Before you book, note the brand and model from the label on the back or side, any error code, and the point in the cycle where the stove stops. A short video of the start-up helps us bring the right part on the first trip to your Sherman Oaks home.

Pellet Stove Repair in Sherman Oaks

Sherman Oaks is part of the City of Los Angeles, so chimney permits here come from the Department of Building and Safety. Many ranch houses on the flats still carry the masonry chimney they were built with, and plenty of those were cracked in the 1994 Northridge earthquake and patched only at the top.

Pellet Stove Repair in Burbank

Burbank runs its own building division, so chimney permits here are issued by the City of Burbank rather than Los Angeles. Many older bungalows still have unlined or clay-lined masonry chimneys, which is the first thing a Level 2 checks before an insert goes in.

Pellet Stove Repair in Encino

Encino is a City of Los Angeles neighborhood, and its permits come from the Department of Building and Safety. Larger remodels here often add a second fireplace or an outdoor one, and each new gas appliance needs its own permit and inspection.

Pellet Stove Repair in Studio City

Studio City sits inside the City of Los Angeles, so an insert, a rebuild or a new gas line is permitted through the Department of Building and Safety. Steep canyon lots mean many chimneys here rise two stories on the downhill side, which changes how a Level 2 is done and what a rebuild costs.

Pellet Stove Repair in Woodland Hills

Woodland Hills is in the City of Los Angeles, so permits run through the Department of Building and Safety. Many houses from the 1970s have a metal factory-built fireplace, and those can only take an insert or gas logs if the label inside the firebox allows it.

Pellet Stove Repair in West Hollywood

West Hollywood runs its own Building and Safety office, so a reline, a rebuild or a gas insert here is permitted by the city rather than by LADBS. Many homes are duplexes or small multi-unit buildings, and one chimney stack can carry flues for more than one unit. Our report notes which flue serves which unit, because an inspector will ask.
